If you are mining at home or by yourself, you should join an existing mining pool. You can choose mining pool to get it started with this process. You need a mining pool to direct your hashing power. You should compare reviews and features of multiple zcash pools in order to get right decision. You should choose the nice hash pool to get profitable mining experience.
If you are mining where power is expensive (e.g. Northern California), then that will significantly hit profits. What this does not take into account is that if you are doing this in a home or office where you also need to pay peak pricing and air conditioning costs, the profitability can be much lower. On the other hand, if you are in a data center then you can easily plan for power and cooling costs.
I think I will end this guide at this point for now as it is getting to be quite long. While I originally intended to cover fine tuning and going over other optional arguments that the EWBF miner can use, I think I will wait and make this a two part guide. For now this Part 1 covers the basic setup and configuration of getting the EWBF miner running and shares being submitted to a pool. Since it will usually take some time before reaching a pools minimal payout period anyway, especially for just one or two cards, we have some time.
Incentivizing the creation of open source miners will enable a wider community to mine for Zcash coins and take ownership of the network as a public good. While we expect a full range in size of Zcash miners to exist, the more individuals who run a miner (whether GPU or CPU) the stronger the network.

Due to the fact that there were only 12 Zcash coins in circulation, the price went up to the astronomical price of 3000 Bitcoins for one Zcash coin!
Experimentation with various GPU selections in the calculator will reveal a card with the best price-to-performance-to-power consumption combination (expressed as MH/s per currency unit). Keep in mind that AMD cards outperform Nvidia cards for Ethereum mining purposes on the EthashAlgo, but AMD doesn’t beat Nvidia when it comes to the Equihash algorithm using the EWBF Miner.

There is a new miner for Nvidia CUDA GPUs available for mining Zcash (ZEC) promising a slightly faster hashrate than the currently fastest implementation of the NiceHash EQM Zcash NVIDIA miner. The most important thing about this new miner is that it is not limited to only mining on NiceHash, so even with the same speed it is still a nice thing to have as it supports Stratum mining on other mining pools besides NiceHash (it does seem to support NiceHash’s Extranonce Subscribe as well). According to the author of the miner it is designed for Nvidia Pascal GPUs, but should work on older Compute 3.0 or higher Nvidia GPUs with at least 1 GB of video memory. Do note that the miner is not open source and there is only a Windows 64-bit binary release available at the moment, it does not seem to be based on other popular codebase and is not being reported as malicious software by antivirus products. You might still want to have something in mind as the user that posted it on Bitcointalk is a new account and not an established miner developer, even though it seems that the miner does work pretty well.
The EWBF Zcash Cuda Miner is written primarily for Nvidia cards running under Windows, and in its description the developer indicates that it is: “Written for Pascal GPUs but works on cards with at least 1Gb memory, and Compute Capability 2 and higher.”

Hey Charlie, OK, I expect you’re checking that out on the South African Bitmart.co.za site which sells miners and other crypto gear? It’s their name for 6x 1080 GPUs in a re-assembled rig… So sure, it’ll be good for mining zCash, as that’s its intended purpose after all and the 1080 GPU is a good miner. That said, electricity in SA has become pretty expensive and Bitmart’s prices are fairly steep. Ran the same settings on both miners and it’s more like 4-5% more than EWBF. 1080 + 1070 =~1020 Sol/s on Bminer with 60% Power limit and 350 W at the wall. On EWBF it’s ~970 Sol/s for both. The 1080 gets the biggest boost on Bminer about 10% ~574 Sol/s with 60% power limit. I’m mining on Flypool which only shows the effective hash rate, so it will take a while to be accurate but it seems legit.
You need to take in to consideration the system which requires another 100w. 1080 with 80 percent power and 2 1060 also at 80 percent power should be fine. If it doesn’t work try to reduce power further to 75 percent. I have my 1080s set to 70 percent power.
The following explanation is about how to mine Zcash (very profitable currently at the moment as of writing this article) in a pool called miningpoolhub. It is possible to mine many other coins through this pool, but you need to download other mining software to do so.
If you are buying a GPU for deep learning and are looking for something to offset your costs, Zcash may be a reason to upgrade from a GTX 1060 to a GTX 1070, a GTX 1080 to GTX 1080 Ti. Our advice here is to get a larger card. At some point, adding additional GTX 1060’s is less efficient for deep learning, gaming and from a cost perspective. Since each PCIe slot has a cost if you decide to scale out, we advocate getting larger cards if possible.
The average mining rate of the system is 200Mh/s, providing an opportunity for an excellent return at current ETH values, if ETH continues to climb as Bitcoin has it will produce a return many times over.
Install your GPU drivers as you normally would and reboot. You’ll know your GPU has been recognized correctly if you go to Device Manager (search it in Windows search bar) and you don’t see any warning marks on your GPUs. They should look like this:
I really like using EthOS over simple mining cause you can actually somewhat use LXDE as an operating system. The problem with EthOS is the limited number of mining programs you can run and the limited amount of packages you can install (instead of apt-get you have to use apt-get-ubuntu and about 90% of packages won’t download or install, and if they do you might have broken EthOS.)
As you can see, factory overclocked cards to help add slightly more performance in Zcash mining. A direct result of improved hash rate is higher earnings per day. Note, this analysis was done on 20 May 2017 and it will have changed in the 48 hours until it was published, but these are good general guidelines:
Currently the NiceHash EQM Zcash miner is the fastest ZEC miner out for Nvidia GPUs with the latest release bringing up to almost 50% increase in performance for most Nvidia GPUs. Everything would have been perfect if you could use the miner for other Zcash pools, but the EQM miner is still only supporting the NiceHash service, so you cannot mine ZEC with it, just sell your Zcash hashrate and get paid for it in Bitcoin. The recently released EWBF CUDA Zcash Miner is probably the fastest ZEC miner for Nvidia GPUs that is available for Windows that you can use on other pools for mining Zcash directly, though it is slower than the latest EQM miner release and that one also comes with 2% dev fee (no fee on the NiceHash miner, but only locked to their service).
