August update on my mining farm, proudly joined the 30,000 club with over 30k sols / hash on equihash which I am currently mining Zcash or ZEC with. I am using the 1080 TI, 1080 TI, 1080/1070/1060 Mini Trio GPU DIY Rig build.

Theres a few more things we need to do before we can start running the miner. First of all, we need to add this string of code to the config.txt, especially on 1-2GB video cards. This will ensure everything runs smoothly. Add this code to your config.txt file:

Explore the world of mining right on your iOS device. You don’t need fancy expensive equipment to do mining. You already own a device powerful enough to mine. Zcash (ZEC) is unique because unlike Bitcoin which needs specialized ASIC hardware to mine, ZEC can still be mined using your CPU albeit slowly.

I hope you’ve found this guide useful! In the video, I quickly cover overclocking and turning down your power consumption via MSI Afterburner, so make sure to watch it as well. If you run into any issues or have any questions, comment here in the blog or in the video comments, and I’ll try to help as much as I can.

You will also need a Zcash wallet address either from a Zcash wallet you installed and run on your own PC, or a Zcash “Deposit” address from an exchange. I would recommend learning how to install run your own wallet unless you are only going to mine with a few cards and plan to exchange the coins right away. Several of the large exchanges support Zcash so you can obtain a wallet address from one such as Kraken, Poloniex, or Bittrex to name just a few.

Now that you’ve got your hands dirty, just sit back and watch your zcash roll in! Be aware that you are mining to a transparent address (it starts with t). You can follow this guide to learn how to create a private and transparent wallet.

It is important to know, that mining on a personal computer is supposed to be done for the purpose of learning. In order to generate profit and achieve massive cooling as well, it is better to build or purchase dedicated mining machines.

–user   (this will be your wallet address followed by a dot (or period) and an optional name for your rig. In this case I am simply calling it the model of my video card or GTX1080).

Next, you will have to ensure you have the correct virtual memory enabled (minimum 16GB). To do this, search for system in the start menu. Open system and on the left hand side click ‘Advanced System Settings.’ Go under the advanced tab, under performance settings, and advanced again. Then click ‘Change’ under virtual memory. Uncheck the box that states to ‘Automatically manage paging file size for all drives’ and then input a custom size of 16384 (or whatever is the maximum allowable value up to 16GB) into the Initial and Maximum size fields. This will prevent you from having any errors with virtual memory.

Notice I only have one GPU running. If you have multiple GPUs they all should be displayed as separate line entries starting with 0. At the top we can verify the mining program and version, the server, solver we are using (in this case the default or auto selected), devices configured for mining (more for multiple GPU systems, in our example just one even though it says all), max temperature limit of 90 degrees C (default setting) after which point the mining software will shutdown to prevent GPU damage, and information on if the optional API is enabled or disabled, as in our case.

Sure, it’s easy. Set the Trezor up as per its documentation, making sure to accurately record and securely store the seed phrase as your top priority. Of you must also remember / record your PIN.

The official Zcash 1.0 User guide at https://github.com/zcash/zcash/wiki/1.0-User-Guide is a great place to start and just get familiar with how Zcash works. The Zcash software provided by Zcash company is a complete package that will let you run a full Node, Mine with your CPU, and also has a built in Wallet for sending and receiving Zcash.

In terms of durability, Zcash will heat up your GPU 24×7 if you let it. Founder’s edition cards using default settings will hit 80C if the ambient temperature is high enough. Cards like the EVGA 1060 6GB card cannot handle the cooling required for Zcash mining for 24×7 operation.

The dstm’s ZCash Nvidia miner has been available for a while and we’ve been keeping a track, but it was only for Linux operating systems – not anymore. With the latest version 0.5.2 the miner is also released for Windows in a 64-bit binary and not anymore available only for Linux miners. The miner is closed source one and comes with a 2% developer fee included. It support Nvidia-based GPUs with Compute Capability 5.0 or later, meaning it is for Maxwell or the newer Pascal video cards. There is support available for stratum as well as for NiceHash’s extranonce, so it can be used there as well without problems for selling Equihash hashrate.

Next, copy your Zcash wallet address. Inside the bat file paste your own Zcash address (in the example above replace the address that starts with “t” and ends with “DX”). After replacing the address you can also change the worker name. In this case it’s .rig1, but you can call it .miningRig1 for example.

Mining and holding crypto is similar to the old adage of buying low and selling high, except for the fact that most buyers don’t know how to do technical analysis, so they buy and sell at the wrong times. They buy high during parabolic price increases and sell low during what could be normal price corrections on continued upward trends.

The first question everyone asks once they have decided to try Zcash mining is “What hardware is best to mine with?” This question is not easily answered because there are many improvements in hardware and software happening on almost a weekly basis. To start, mining falls into one of two general categories

Go in to your extracted Zcash file and find the ‘start.sh’ file. If it doesn’t have one make one. Select it, right click on it and click ‘Edit’. Once you are here you will need to delete the contents in it and paste this with your addresses and press save.

Hello zcasher, I would like to mine zcash for fun (and learn) with my laptop’s CPU. I how could do it? Whats software do you suggest (Windows) Since now I have tried to mine Monero using Claymore’s CryptoNote CPU -where the developer ask for a 2.5% –

Possible with Nicehash or Minergate. Nicehash is good to use for easy setup, but the hash rate is around 30% less than if you set up your own mining software with Claymore or EWBF. We will therefore focus on GPU mining for this guide.

Replace “eu” for your mining pool address found on the pool “Get Started” page, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address) and lastly replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use. (If you’re using the Nicehash pool, you can use -l to specify your location like “eu” for Europe)

A: You can run the miner like all previous versions with command line arguments, in this case the config file will be ignored. If you sets the –config argument, the specified config file will be used, all other command line arguments will be ignored. If you run a miner without command line arguments, the miner will try to use the default config file miner.cfg.

There are many risks when it comes to Zcash mining on your NVIDIA Pascal desktop GPU. First, Zcash pricing can be unpredictable. We have seen major drops in value before (depicted above.) One also needs to be able to convert Zcash to standard currency which may incur transaction fees and/ or be difficult.

I have 1080 TI FE and instead of doing 8 USD/day – now am getting 3 USD/day with nicehash! doesn’t worth it’s effort working for now but i will keep it on for a while and will keep on watching. Hopefully!!

Replace “eu” for your location, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address), replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use, and lastly replace “-og 0” for the number of GPUs you’re using (as in -og 0 1 2 if you’re using 3 GPUs)
