The dstm’s ZCash Nvidia miner has been available for a while and we’ve been keeping a track, but it was only for Linux operating systems – not anymore. With the latest version 0.5.2 the miner is also released for Windows in a 64-bit binary and not anymore available only for Linux miners. The miner is closed source one and comes with a 2% developer fee included. It support Nvidia-based GPUs with Compute Capability 5.0 or later, meaning it is for Maxwell or the newer Pascal video cards. There is support available for stratum as well as for NiceHash’s extranonce, so it can be used there as well without problems for selling Equihash hashrate.

Hey Charlie, OK, I expect you’re checking that out on the South African Bitmart.co.za site which sells and other crypto gear? It’s their name for 6x 1080 GPUs in a re-assembled rig… So sure, it’ll be good for mining zCash, as that’s its intended purpose after all and the 1080 GPU is a good miner. That said, electricity in SA has become pretty expensive and Bitmart’s prices are fairly steep. Their setup goes for R88k but I see that a single GT 1080 (basic model, not the Ti) goes for about R10k on Evetech: https://www.evetech.co.za/PC-Components/buy-nvidia-geforce-gtx-graphics-cards-47.aspx You should check which… Read more »
By default the EWBF miner should extract to a folder named “Zec miner 0.3.3b” unless you changed it. I would recommend placing this folder somewhere easy to get to, such as the root of your C drive, your Desktop, or somewhere you can easily locate it. For this guide I extracted it to: “C:\Zec miner 0.3.3b“. Open up the Zec miner 0.3.3b folder and you should see files similar those those below:
We’ll be starting the miner using a simple text file that tells the operating system to launch the mining program. It also allows the configuration of settings when EWBF starts. These files can be created an edited with any text editor. On the Windows platform, the correct file extension is .bat. On Linux, it is .cmd.
I think nowadays altcoin mining become faded. Since mining is not a good solution for scaling up the altcoin. The altcoin is going to change from POW to POs. And there are more and more ICO with fixed amount of tokens. So the future of mining is not so optimistic…

Incentivizing the creation of open source miners will enable a wider community to mine for Zcash coins and take ownership of the network as a public good. While we expect a full range in size of Zcash miners to exist, the more individuals who run a miner (whether GPU or CPU) the stronger the network.
In 2009, Bitcoin was one of the first applications of the blockchain. Since the invention of money, the problem of centralization has always existed. Although it was temporarily solved in the era of the gold rush, when every ordinary man could mine gold and generate money, since then, banks and credit companies took control over the money, shifted over to working with credit, and practically cut off the connection to gold itself and created a monopoly on printing money. Bitcoin returned the possibility of generating money for everyone. It is no coincidence that the process of generating cryptocurrencies is called “Mining”.
Click on “workers” and choose one of the jobs (Account’s default jobs) according to your card. Run the file you have created (mine.bat). Make sure that there are no errors and that a message approving your worker has been received. If you did not get this message, it means you did something wrong. After the program starts running you will see that the worker (called the miner) is added to the “workers” screen. On the site, click “Dashboard” to see data about the mining (it will take some time until you see something; it is updated according to the work that the mining machine does).
Important: You will need to already have Zcash installed before you can start using the more specialized software below! If you want a beginners step-by-step guide to installing and using the software for you can find one here and I have embedded the official install video below.
There is a new miner for Nvidia CUDA GPUs available for mining Zcash (ZEC) promising a slightly faster hashrate than the currently fastest implementation of the NiceHash EQM Zcash NVIDIA miner. The most important thing about this new miner is that it is not limited to only mining on NiceHash, so even with the same speed it is still a nice thing to have as it supports Stratum mining on other mining pools besides NiceHash (it does seem to support NiceHash’s Extranonce Subscribe as well). According to the author of the miner it is designed for Nvidia Pascal GPUs, but should work on older Compute 3.0 or higher Nvidia GPUs with at least 1 GB of video memory. Do note that the miner is not open source and there is only a Windows 64-bit binary release available at the moment, it does not seem to be based on other popular codebase and is not being reported as malicious software by antivirus products. You might still want to have something in mind as the user that posted it on Bitcointalk is a new account and not an established miner developer, even though it seems that the miner does work pretty well.
Freedom Miner is a Zcash Miner beast and is defaulted to mine ZEC out of the box. However, changing currencies is a breeze before or after you receive the rig. During purchase simply provide us with your wallet addresses for the coins you wish to mine and we’ll send your rig pre-configured. Don’t have wallet addresses yet? No problem, we can ship your rig with our system defaults. Freedom Miner comes with a standard 3-prong US style power cord, but other standard power supply cables are compatible as well.
The miner still needs some work, especially on Nvidia GPUs where by default it is pretty heavy on the CPU load and memory usage as well. It is recommended that Nvidia users add the parameter –enable-nv-hotfix in order to reduce the CPU load a bit, but still running the miner on the main GPU may make the system a bit unresponsive even with that parameter. Still if you are interested in mining MNX (even with the high hashrate and low block reward at the moment) or any other Equihash 96/5 coin you might want to check the lolMiner-mnx out.
For this reason, miners started to work in groups, which are called pools. A pool of miners unites the calculation power of a workforce of small miners in order to obtain a significant mining power (aka hash rate), thus increasing the chance of solving a puzzle and getting the reward for it. Each miner in the pool, gets a “share” of the reward, according to the amount of power he contributed to the pool.
The next step is to download the EWBF Miner. Only download miners from the official threads in BitcoinTalk. If you scroll down, you’ll see a couple of different download options. We’re going to use the Mega download link.
* The nheqminer is available with hardcoded pools from nicehash, suprnova and other mining pools supporting Zcash, so make sure you download the correct version for the pool you are going to be mining at.
The whole Zcash mining process includes set up, miner downloading, configuring windows and batch file setting to run and much more. Zcash generally uses equilhash as a hashing algorithm. This is an asymmetric memory hard PoW algo. This is based on the generalize puzzle. It relies on high Random Access Memory needs to bottleneck the generation of proofs and ASIC development unfeasible.
The answer? Difficulty. By automatically adjusting the computational difficulty of solving a block, the Zcash blockchain is able to maintain 2.5-minute intervals. You’ll notice that difficulty closely tracks hashrate, and it, too, has seen exponential growth this year:

–pec (optional) (this last optional parameter is telling the miner to run in performance reporting mode and will periodically display your overall hash/watt ration. It takes no variables and is more of an on/off flag as it defaults to off without this parameter being set)
