While the coins of the “old world” as we all know, were and still are issued by centralized bodies such as banks and governments, and are created as printed bills or banknotes, the process of creating money in the world of crypto is decentralized.
**link removed** As per your instructions (both on the printed and video instructions) when I went to “mega” (see above) and clicked, it brought me a list of about 15 items, each item that said “Zec Miner” with different dates on it. (I have a screen shot of the list but no where to upload it.) I picked the most recent date, which was the last item on the list, When I unpacked it to my desktop it still said “Zec Miner.” I went back an did a search for “EWBF ZEc Miner” on that same forum page with no… Read more »
The next step is to download the EWBF Miner. Only download miners from the official threads in BitcoinTalk. If you scroll down, you’ll see a couple of different download options. We’re going to use the Mega download link.
Hi Marilyn, Imgur.com is a good site for image uploads, just as a tip. The Mega page won’t load for me for some reason, probably due to my browser config. Google Drive works though. The one you want to download is Zec miner 0.3.4b – or whatever the latest working version mentioned on the forum page happens to be. I’m not really understanding the problem. Sounds like you downloaded the miner OK, just it’s named differently? That won’t be an issue. I suggest you run some virus scans on the miner you downloaded and then proceed with the rest of… Read more »
For those who may be unfamiliar, Pascal is the code name for Nvidia’s latest micro-architecture which includes all GeForce 10 (10xx) series cards, such as the GTX 1050, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, the Ti variants as well as Titian X and Xp cards. So basically the miner is optimized for Nvidia 10 series cards, but should still work with most Nvidia cards that have at least 1 GB of on-board memory and Compute 2.0 or higher capabilities.
Choose and download an appropriate mining program that supports, a: your desired coin (Zcash), b: your GPU (GTX 1080), c: your operating system (Windows 10), and sometimes d: your pool (rarely but does occasionally happen).
According to its developers and most users that have tried the Bminer already it is the fastest publicly available Equihash miner for Nvidia GPUs and we can confirm that our initial impressions are showing a better local hashrate compared to the alternatives mentioned. So if you have a Compute Capability 5.0 or newer Nvidia GPU used for mining you might want to give Bminer a go and see if it will work better for you. The miner does come with SSL support as well as Nicehash support, has some interesting extra features, though it is still very easy to use. There is also an API and a web-based interface available for monitoring of your mining rigs that can be quite useful, so go and give it a try and report your results.
Freedom Miner is a Zcash Miner beast and is defaulted to mine ZEC out of the box. However, changing currencies is a breeze before or after you receive the rig. During purchase simply provide us with your wallet addresses for the coins you wish to mine and we’ll send your rig pre-configured. Don’t have wallet addresses yet? No problem, we can ship your rig with our system defaults. Freedom Miner comes with a standard 3-prong US style power cord, but other standard power supply cables are compatible as well.
Once you have decided to start mining Zcash and have a good idea of what Hardware you want to use the next step is to find the right Software. There are several types of software that work with different hardware configurations including the official Zcash miner.
For now though, just keep the miner running for 30-60 minutes at default settings just to make sure everything is working properly. This will also allow time for your card to find a few shares and for the pool to accept them and tabulate them on your wallet display page. There can be sometimes a 10-15 minute delay from when your shares are first accepted and any statistics to appear on the pool side, so now would be a good time to go grab a cup of coffee.
I use the MSI GTX 1080 TI AERO. These cards are the best in performance and cooling. They have from to back airflow that keep these cards cooler than most. Note: Do not buy the Gigabyte version of these. They have firmware issues and crash.
Hash (Rate) A hash is the output of a hash function and, as it relates to Bitcoin, the Hash Rate is the speed at which a compute is completing an operation in the Bitcoin code. A higher hash rate is better when mining as it increases your opportunity of finding the next block and receiving the reward.
Possible with Nicehash or Minergate. Nicehash is good to use for easy setup, but the hash rate is around 30% less than if you set up your own mining software with Claymore or EWBF. We will therefore focus on GPU mining for this guide.
The EWBF Zcash Cuda Miner is written primarily for Nvidia cards running under Windows, and in its description the developer indicates that it is: “Written for Pascal GPUs but works on cards with at least 1Gb memory, and Compute Capability 2 and higher.”
It can also help to check your equipment on different mining profitability websites. Sometimes the estimations vary so you can get a more accurate prediction by trying out different calculators. Some worth mentioning are:
Pro tip: check out the following GPUs: Nvidia’s GTX 1060-6GB/1070/1080 Series; AMD’s RX 470/480, RX 570/580, R9 Series, or HD 7990/7950 (if used cards are available, try to get them from a gamer instead of a miner, with a warranty if possible). As with everything, do your own due diligence to evaluate GPUs based on their hashrates, power requirements, availability, and price.
Now me personally I am a little superstittious when it comes to running things and I for some reason like to run my mining programs a super user. This will be a little redundant, but this is just how I do it.
The blockchain allows the transfer of funds in a decentralized manner, while security and fraud-prevention are carried out by encryption, hence the name crypto, as cryptography is the discipline of encryption. Encrypting and verifying a transaction requires work. Computers which do this kind of work, which is basically solving a mathematical puzzle, get to write the next block in the chain, and are rewarded with coins for it – this is practically the mining operation. The more miners a network has, the stronger it is and the faster and more secure it is.
Although Zcash is already a mature coin, it is still not coming close to the load and size of Bitcoin’s and Ethereum’s chains, so, in most cases, mining it is more profitable. In 2016 when Zcash came into the world, it was very profitable to mine it. Due to the fact that there were only 12 Zcash coins in circulation, the price went up to the astronomical price of 3000 Bitcoins for one Zcash coin!
Now that you’ve got your hands dirty, just sit back and watch your zcash roll in! Be aware that you are mining to a transparent address (it starts with t). You can follow this guide to learn how to create a private and transparent wallet
If you want to dual-boot and not just clean install you will need this step. Right click on the windows start menu, on the bottom left and select ‘Disk Management’. Select your main HDD or SSD that you want to dual boot from, right click on it and press ‘Shrink’. I suggest using at least 32gb just to be safe.
On October 28, 2016, the launch of Zcash made ZEC coins available for mining. Since Zcash is an open source, decentralized cryptocurrency, we believe that mining for ZEC is an important way to help strengthen and decentralize the Zcash community, contribute to computer science, and win our gratitude and a prize. Mining should be available to everyone, regardless of their access to specialized hardware; anyone should be able to use a computer to “mine” by using open source software, and add more transactions to the Zcash ledger to possibly get Zcash coins in return for their effort. By distributing the ability to perform mining with open source software, the Zcash network can be a more accessible and a truly community-supported cryptocurrency.
Currently the NiceHash EQM Zcash miner is the fastest ZEC miner out there for Nvidia GPUs with the latest release bringing up to almost 50% increase in performance for most Nvidia GPUs. Everything would have been perfect if you could use the miner for other Zcash pools, but the EQM miner is still only supporting the NiceHash service, so you cannot mine ZEC with it, just sell your Zcash hashrate and get paid for it in Bitcoin. The recently released EWBF CUDA Zcash Miner is probably the fastest ZEC miner for Nvidia GPUs that is available for Windows that you can use on other pools for mining Zcash directly, though it is slower than the latest EQM miner release and that one also comes with 2% dev fee (no fee on the NiceHash miner, but only locked to their service).
Troubleshooting tip: Some miners have had success installing all GPUs at once, then installing the drivers. Others prefer to install only one card, install the drivers, shut down the system, and then install the rest of the GPUs.
Hey Charlie, OK, I expect you’re checking that out on the South African Bitmart.co.za site which sells miners and other crypto gear? It’s their name for 6x 1080 GPUs in a re-assembled rig… So sure, it’ll be good for mining zCash, as that’s its intended purpose after all and the 1080 GPU is a good miner. That said, electricity in SA has become pretty expensive and Bitmart’s prices are fairly steep. Their setup goes for R88k but I see that a single GT 1080 (basic model, not the Ti) goes for about R10k on Evetech: https://www.evetech.co.za/PC-Components/buy-nvidia-geforce-gtx-graphics-cards-47.aspx You should check which… Read more »
PIMP team has created your favorite mining software such as BAMT 2, PiMP, PoolManager, SeedManager, FarmWatcher, and Miner.farm. With world-class support, business dev, and server experts. By miners, for miners.
If you have a Linux CUDA compute machine available we highly recommend using nvidia-docker. Installing different CUDA versions for Zcash mining and deep learning frameworks and managing versions can be painful. Using nvidia-docker you do not have to worry about that.
Disclosure: Mining metrics are calculated based on a network hash rate of 437,207 KH/s and using a ZEC – USD exchange rate of 1 ZEC = $ 243.51. These figures vary based on the total network hash rate and on the ZEC to USD conversion rate. Block reward is fixed at 10 ZEC and future block reward reductions are not taken into account. The average block time used in the calculation is 150 seconds. The electricity price used in generating these metrics is $ 0.12 per kWh. Network hash rate varies over time, this is just an estimation based on current values.
Replace “eu” for your mining pool address found on the pool “Get Started” page, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address) and lastly replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use. (If you’re using the Nicehash pool, you can use -l to specify your location like “eu” for Europe)
Bminer is a relatively new miner for Nvidia GPUs for mining cryptocurrencies using the Equihash algorithm such as Zcash (ZEC). It is a closed source miner, available for both Windows and Linux operating systems and comes with a 2% dev fee included (optional, though disabling it apparently removes some optimizations). Bminer comes as an alternative to the popular EWBF miner, the development of which has been stalled for a while already, as well as the more dstm ZCash CUDA Miner that looks promising and is actively being developed, but still lacks some features such as failover pool support for example. So any new alternatives such as Bminer that are being actively improved and developed are more than welcome for the users and the crypto community as well.
Buying gear and mining cryptocurrency with it allows you to own an income-producing asset in the gear itself, with aftermarket resale value holding up very well and even appreciating. GPUs purchased for mining in 2015 and 2016 were often sold at a profit in 2017 due to high demand in the market!

Digital currencies are mine to a transparent address but it can be spent to shielded address or Z-address. This currency should be swept out of the transparent address in one transaction without any changes. You should use the Z-sendmany command to send currencies from a transparent address to shielded address. You need 4GB RAM for this process.
