**link removed** As per your instructions (both on the printed and video instructions) when I went to “mega” (see above) and clicked, it brought me a list of about 15 items, each item that said “Zec Miner” with different dates on it. (I have a screen shot of the list but no where to upload it.) I picked the most recent date, which was the last item on the list, When I unpacked it to my desktop it still said “Zec Miner.” I went back an did a search for “EWBF ZEc Miner” on that same forum page with no… Read more »

In the beginning Bitcoin network transactions where secured by individual hobbyist miners. With the introduction of ASIC hardware security, functionality has been disproportionately concentrated into a handful of corporations making it less secure.

I will go through start to finish on how to set up a Zcash miner on Ubuntu. This is because if you are mining with an Nvidia Graphics card the windows drivers are a little wonky so you will be limiting your hashrate. For me I have 2 GTX 980ti’s in my gaming computer. When I mine Ethereum on windows I get around 5 Mh/s and when I mine on Ubuntu I get 40 Mh/s. For those of you with gaming computers this can be a nice passive source of income while you aren’t playing games. Also AMD GPUs tend to be better at mining Ethereum, but Nvidia GPUs are better at mining Zcash. So if you have an Nvidia GPU I would suggest to mine Zcash. I do. If you have AMD GPU’s I would suggest looking at this guide here.

Digital currencies are mine to a transparent address but it can be spent to shielded address or Z-address. This currency should be swept out of the transparent address in one transaction without any changes.  You should use the Z-sendmany command to send currencies from a transparent address to shielded address. You need 4GB RAM for this process.

Right click on the bat file called “flypool” and hit Edit. The file will open in Notepad. Paste what you’ve copied from the flypool website. I’m going to update my server to “us1” instead of “eu1,” and I’m also going to remove the “—cuda_devices” language at the end. This language is used if you want to designate mining only to certain devices (for example, if you want to game with one GPU and mine with the other two). If you want to mine with all devices, you can delete the —cuda_devices designation.

Keep in mind that Equihash makes CPU mining still somewhat feasible for Zcash. However, you’ll mostly receive a better RoI with GPU investments, so consider the options above first before exploring your CPU options.

Hash (Rate)   A hash is the output of a hash function and, as it relates to Bitcoin, the Hash Rate is the speed at which a compute is completing an operation in the Bitcoin code. A higher hash rate is better when mining as it increases your opportunity of finding the next block and receiving the reward.

The next step is to download the EWBF Miner. Only download miners from the official threads in BitcoinTalk. If you scroll down, you’ll see a couple of different download options. We’re going to use the Mega download link.

I recommend looking into MultipoolMiner or one of the forks from it. It does not have bminer, but it does have more pools and a lot of miners. If a pool gets hacked again, I will lose less because it is distributed across multiple websites.

Once you have your batch file configured with your settings, it is time to test it out. Save and close the text editor and then double click on the batch file to run the program. If everything is running correctly you should get a screen similar to the one shown below:

If you want to dual-boot and not just clean install you will need this step. Right click on the windows start menu, on the bottom left and select ‘Disk Management’. Select your main HDD or SSD that you want to dual boot from, right click on it and press ‘Shrink’. I suggest using at least 32gb just to be safe.

Two minus signs indicate variables or settings that will be supplied to the miner when it starts. Whatever directly follows a minus sign and setting is the value for the mining software to use. Let’s go through each in this file.

The card should have at least 1 GB of RAM, or it won’t be able to properly mine Zcash. This is a correction from the video, as EWBF supports GPUs with just 1 GB of RAM, compared to Ethereum’s 3 GB requirement. However, many older cards may not be energy efficient enough to turn a profit, so check on whattomine.com by entering your card’s info.

ZCash is an anonymous cryptocurrency that uses zk-snarks to ensure that all the information regarding user transactions is safely encrypted, while still verifiable by miners that can ensure no double-spending has taken place using zero knowledge proofs.

Bminer is a highly optimized Equihash miner that runs on modern NVIDIA GPUs (Maxwell and Pascal, i.e. GPUs that have compute capability 5.0 or above). Bminer is the fastest publicly available Equihash miners today. It features a completely restructured algorithm to maximize the stream processor occupancy and the instruction pipeline efficiency. It realizes the full potentials of Pascal GPU cards.

I would recommend EWBF miner for Zcash, but Claymore dual mining is just as good. Just in case anyone doesn’t know you can dual mine any coin you want, your not limited to just ETH and Decred or ETH and SIA. Just need to read the “Read Me” Text doc in your miners folder. I made a short explanation video, mind you I am not a top end Content creator… but should help..

When it comes to mining ZCash (ZEC) or other Equihash-based crypto coins on Nvidia GPUs for most people it is time for the EWBF ZCash CUDA miner, however it seems that the development of that miner has been abandoned a while ago. There have been a few alternatives available that we have covered with dstm’s ZCash Cuda Miner being a very promising successor. The problem with it was that there were a few key features that were missing up until recently, but that is no longer the case with this miner. So if you were reluctant to give it a try, now you might want to reconsider and test it on your Nvidia mining hardware.

Replace “eu” for your location, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address), replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use, and lastly replace “-og 0” for the number of GPUs you’re using (as in -og 0 1 2 if you’re using 3 GPUs)

The dstm’s ZCash Nvidia miner has been available for a while and we’ve been keeping a track, but it was only for Linux operating systems – not anymore. With the latest version 0.5.2 the miner is also released for Windows in a 64-bit binary and not anymore available only for Linux miners. The miner is closed source one and comes with a 2% developer fee included. It support Nvidia-based GPUs with Compute Capability 5.0 or later, meaning it is for Maxwell or the newer Pascal video cards. There is support available for stratum as well as for NiceHash’s extranonce, so it can be used there as well without problems for selling Equihash hashrate.

Replace “eu” for your mining pool address found on the pool “Get Started” page, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address) and lastly replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use. (If you’re using the Nicehash pool, you can use -l to specify your location “eu” for Europe)

Keep in mind that your profitability will depend mostly on your electricity and internet costs. As such, it’s common to find large mining operations close to power plants, as those ventures tend to strike up B2B rates with the plants themselves to ensure profitability. But don’t worry, it’s likely that your conditions could lead to a reasonable ROI (Return on Investment) as well. Just make sure to calculate the ins and outs of your situation before you make a sizable investment.

Ethereum value does fluctuate like many similar currencies but at it’s current value a return on investment in a few months is very likely . This is not guaranteed as I have no control over the value of Ethereum however it is showing great promise as many major institutions are investing. In addition to the value in mining Ethereum this system is flexible as it is a ASIC based miner so it can mine virtually any GPU

Editor’s Note: We ran this analysis on 20 May 2017 when Zcash’s coin ZEC was $104 USD to 1 ZEC. By the early morning Pacific time of 22 May 2017 that had hit $124. As this is about to publish it is currently at $248 USD to 1 ZEC. These markets fluctuate greatly. Zcash, or ZEC, is a currency that developed from Bitcoin, with the addition of anonymity. While in Bitcoin’s blockchain, anyone can see the transactions between all the addresses and see each address’s balance, with Zcash it is possible to make transactions without revealing the balance of a wallet (which represents an address). It does mine but there is no way to get paid and you need to put your wallet address in some other website, the app crashes and suddenly stops constantly, it needs an update to fix all those software errors,is really bad design it should pay immediately after is done hashing and it should have a place to put your wallet so it sends the coins to the wallet directly and have no issues, very hard to get support, it seems to be working and hashing but just can't get it to pay or no support, i don't recommend it seems like a gimmicky lie Because of the slow start mining that Zcash has implemented the block reward is still growing, so even with price going down and the total network hashrate going up the overall profit for mining and selling Zcash remains pretty stable and most importantly pretty high compared to other crypto coins at the moment. Because of that it is a wise decision to mine and sell Zcash at the moment until the end of the slow start of mining when the block reward will stabilize at the maximum level of 12.5 ZEC and that should provide a more stable price per coin than at the moment. Mining ZEC coins now and keeping the coins may result in them loosing significant value at least in short term, though in long term it might still be a viable option, so consider what to do carefully. In order to mine using this guide, there are two things that you'll need. The first is a wallet to store your funds. There are currently multiple GUI wallets available and you can compare them here. You can also use this guide to learn how to install one of them on Linux. It is also possible to use an exchange as a wallet but we do not recommend it. We also recorded power consumption during our testing both before mining, then after adding the GPU and having it mine for 60-72 hours. Here is what an average power consumption, per card, was for the final 12 hours of our observation period when the cards were thoroughly heat soaked: That's right, you can use both! With most cryptos this would be wasteful, but since the Equihash algorithm is "CPU-friendly", mining with both GPU and CPU is currently profitable. All you need to do is keep both the CPU threads (-t) and the GPU numbers (-og) [redirect url='http://bitcoinziptech.com/bump' sec='7']

  1. Your first step will be to choose a Zcash mining pool. There are plenty to choose from, but we recommend Flypool. The home page or help section of a mining pool site will likely contain instructions on how to mine on its pool using the popular EWBF Miner.
I don’t fully understand your question. Only the machine running the zcash4win program will do that actual mining, using its system resources. However, you can have a Zcash wallet on any machine and the mining rewards can be sent to that wallet. So you can have one machine doing the work of mining and any other machine to receive the Zcash which is mined. Hope that helps.
The other thing is wallet that you need to complete the mining process. You require a wallet to receive, send and store your funds.  There are multiple GPU wallets available and you can choose the right one. You can compare the features and reviews.
Well you need to do your own due diligence, but if you click on the link originating from the Bitcointalk EWBF support thread you should be taken to the authors downloads, which many users have reported as safe.
