Zcash (ZEC) is unique because unlike Bitcoin which needs specialized ASIC hardware to mine, ZEC can still be mined using your CPU albeit slowly.

As solving these mathematical puzzles had become difficult, mining pools are being used. A mining pool is a joint effort between miners, so that even a miner with a relatively small amount of processing power can enjoy the reward, without having to solve the whole mathematical puzzle by himself, as it requires a lot of computing power (Hash rate). Today, Bitcoin’s network is so heavy, that nobody can mine Bitcoin by themselves. As an individual miner’s power is relatively small, he will probably not be able to solve any puzzle before other more powerful miners do and new puzzles are issued, resulting in wasted work which practically gives zero income (in theory, an individual can solve a puzzle by themselves, but with Bitcoin the chances of success are smaller than winning the lottery).
Hash (Rate) A hash is the output of a hash function and, as it relates to Bitcoin, the Hash Rate is the speed at which a compute is completing an operation in the Bitcoin code. A higher hash rate is better when mining as it increases your opportunity of finding the next block and receiving the reward.
I’ve a question, I have a 700W Power supply(non modular) , and currently a gtx 1080 and one gtx 1060 3GB. So the miner shows that I’m using about 200W for this gtx, if I connect one more gtx 1060 3GB and I start the miner, it shows errors like it hasn’t enought power, and the last gpu stops running but the fan go 100%.
That’s right, you can use both! With most cryptos this would be wasteful, but since the Equihash algorithm is “CPU-friendly”, mining with both GPU and CPU is currently profitable. All you need to do is keep both the CPU threads (-t) and the GPU numbers (-og)

Once you have these downloaded open up Linux Live, select your usb you want to use and select the Ubuntu 14.04 iso you just downloaded. Then press the lightning button. Once it is done reboot your PC, and boot into the BIOS. You can usually do this by pressing F2 or F12 when the computer is booting up. Once you are here select ‘Boot Menu’ and select your USB drive. From here it is pretty self explanatory.

By default the EWBF miner should extract to a folder named “Zec miner 0.3.3b” unless you changed it. I would recommend placing this folder somewhere easy to get to, such as the root of your C drive, your Desktop, or somewhere you can easily locate it. For this guide I extracted it to: “C:\Zec miner 0.3.3b“. Open up the Zec miner 0.3.3b folder and you should see files similar those those below:

Hey guys, thanks for the fantastic guide. I have a windows 10 system with two nvidia GPUs. One is gtx 960 and the other is gt 710. I am using escavator for mining zcash. I m getting 127 H/s if i use only my gtx 960 GPU. When i added the second GPU, escavator does not read it, ( windows does), still getting 127H/s. How do i increase this? Any ideas pls.
One of my GPUs is throwing out a constant stream of “GPU #2 returned incorrect data!” errors. It’s a rig with 4x 7950s running at stock speeds (925 MHz GPU clock, 1250 MHz Mem clock) and all are running below 70C with fan speeds set at 85%. Most people with this issue seem to have much higher temps or big overclocks. Also, adjusting the intensity does not help. Has anyone else run into this or managed to fix it?

Experimentation with various GPU selections in the calculator will reveal a card with the best price-to-performance-to-power consumption combination (expressed as MH/s per currency unit). Keep in mind that AMD cards outperform Nvidia cards for Ethereum mining purposes on the EthashAlgo, but AMD doesn’t beat Nvidia when it comes to the Equihash algorithm using the EWBF Miner.

Equihash is memory-hard but also fast to verify.
