The dstm’s ZCash Nvidia miner has been available for a while and we’ve been keeping a track, but it was only for Linux operating systems – not anymore. With the latest version 0.5.2 the miner is also released for Windows in a 64-bit binary and not anymore available only for Linux miners. The miner is closed source one and comes with a 2% developer fee included. It support Nvidia-based GPUs with Compute Capability 5.0 or later, meaning it is for Maxwell or the newer Pascal video cards. There is support available for stratum as well as for NiceHash’s extranonce, so it can be used there as well without problems for selling Equihash hashrate.
ZCash uses Equihash as an hashing algorithm, which is an asymmetric memory-hard PoW algorithm based on the generalized birthday problem. It relies on high RAM requirements to bottleneck the generation of proofs and making ASIC development unfeasible, much like Ethereum.
I’ve done a search here and no one is talking about Bminer a new Equihash miner released last month. from gpumining I started with EBWF then I discovered DSTM which was the tits with the higher hashrate but it was fairly unstable if I tried to adjust the vid cards through MSI AB giving me hard freezes or bsods. Below is an example of a batch file that we use on one of our Windows-based mining rigs. Everything is contained in a single line in the .bat file. That single line specifies the program to be run (miner) and a few settings that customize the miner’s activity. Finally, and most importantly, one of Zcash wallet addresses is specified so mined Zcash goes to the right place. Here’s the .bat file that we are currently using to start mining. Cold Storage This is the process of moving your bitcoins to an offline wallet. The benefit of this is that no one can hack into your computer and steal your private keys if your computer is not connected to a network. Bitcoins will need to be brought back out of cold storage to be spent or transferred again.

Several months ago, we tried Zcash mining in Docker and even published Docker containers for CPU mining. Keep in mind that your profitability will depend mostly on your electricity and internet costs. As such, it’s common to find large mining operations close to power plants, as those ventures tend to strike up B2B rates with the plants themselves to ensure profitability. But don’t worry, it’s likely that your conditions could lead to a reasonable ROI (Return on Investment) as well. Just make sure to calculate the ins and outs of your situation before you make a sizable investment.

As you can see our current Hashrate is showing as 506.7 H/s, which is equivalent to the Sol/s reading on the miner. The avergae hashrate is showing as 494.6 and is the effective rate for the past 24 hours. I should point out that this rate is slightly lower than the average mainly as I shut this miner down a few times in the course of writing this guide. The final part are the valid and invalid shares. Obviously you want as near as 100% valid and 0% invalid as possible, but don’t be too concerned if your see 1 0r 2% in the invalid column on occasion.
I briefly mentioned it while reviewing the EVGA GTX1080 card, but thought I would take some time to go over EWBF’s Zcash Cuda Miner in more detail and help anyone unfamiliar with the program or mining in general to get setup and running quickly with it under Windows.

Hey Charlie, Well, you should multiply the hashrate and electricity consumption and price tag of each GPU by 6, seeing as the Zodiac contains 6 GPUs. When you identify which exact card the Zodiac is using, you’ll be able to search those details but you’ll still need to account for there being 6 GPUs in the complete unit, so 6 times as much hashrate, cost and power consumption. The whole Zcash mining process includes set up, miner downloading, configuring windows and batch file setting to run and much more. Zcash generally uses equilhash as a hashing algorithm. This is an asymmetric memory hard PoW algo. This is based on the generalize puzzle. It relies on high Random Access Memory needs to bottleneck the generation of proofs and ASIC development unfeasible.
For perspective, I run several of the Gigabyte “ITX” one-fan GTX 1070 model cards on Folding@Home – which pushes a card quite a bit harder than ZCash mining does – and they stay plenty cool as long as the ambient temperature doesn’t get very high.

You will need to pick a pool that supports Zcash. Some of the more popular pools include Flypool, Nanopool, Nicehash, Suprnova among others. You can get a more detailed up-to-date list by searching Google for “Zcash mining pools”. For this guide I will be using the Flypool Zcash mining pool.
Once you have decided to start mining Zcash and have a good idea of what Hardware you want to use the next step is to find the right Software. There are several types of software that work with different hardware configurations including the official Zcash miner.
Although Zcash is already a mature coin, it is still not coming close to the load and size of Bitcoin’s and Ethereum’s chains, so, in most cases, mining it is more profitable. In 2016 when Zcash came into the world, it was very profitable to mine it. Due to the fact that there were only 12 Zcash coins in circulation, the price went up to the astronomical price of 3000 Bitcoins for one Zcash coin!

Linux users would probably want to go and try the latest version of the Silentarmy miner that also brought support for Nvidia GPUs and is apparently providing similar performance as the NiceHash release for Windows. Also the Silentarmy miner is doing pretty well on AMD hardware, so do try it as well if you have such mining rigs and are running them on Linux.
Another popular service for renting and leasing hashrate, namely Mining Rig Rentals has yet to introduce support for the new algorithm used by Zcash (ZEC), so for the moment it is not interesting option for people that are all into Equihash. With the big interest however we are not going to be surprised if they don’t take much time to also introduce Zcash support in the next days.
For this test, we are using the EWBF 0.3.3b miner. We are comparing all of the GTX series GPUs in terms of mining performance as well as power consumption. For the NVIDIA GTX 1070, GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti we have both Founder’s Edition and overclocked variants. We did not test the GTX 1050 (2GB) and GTX 1060 (3GB) variants because they have significantly lower value for gaming and machine learning. We are assuming these GPUs are not dedicated miners and instead Zcash mining is something to utilize hardware while it is idle/ offset costs.
As solving these mathematical puzzles had become difficult, mining pools are being used. A mining pool is a joint effort between miners, so that even a miner with a relatively small amount of processing power can enjoy the reward, without having to solve the whole mathematical puzzle by himself, as it requires a lot of computing power (Hash rate). In the early days of Bitcoin, it was possible to mine Bitcoin with a standard processor of a personal computer (CPU mining). Afterwards, as the network grew bigger, the difficulty of solving these puzzles grew too, and it was no longer possible to mine using a CPU. For this reason, people shifted to using powerful “gamers” graphics card processes (GPU mining), as their design solves those puzzles much faster than a CPU. The next step was to shift over to ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits which are basically dedicated machines built for the sole purpose of mining). Today, Bitcoin’s network is so heavy, that nobody can mine Bitcoin by themselves. As an individual miner’s power is relatively small, he will probably not be able to solve any puzzle before other more powerful miners do and new puzzles are issued, resulting in wasted work which practically gives zero income (in theory, an individual can solve a puzzle by themselves, but with Bitcoin the chances of success are smaller than winning the lottery).
