The whole process of getting set up, downloading your miner, configuring Windows, and setting up your batch file to run should take less than 20 minutes. Follow along with the steps in the video guide below, or read on for a full text guide.

In order to mine using this guide, there are two things that you’ll need. The first is a wallet to store your funds. There are currently multiple GUI wallets available and you can compare them here. You can also use this guide to learn how to install one of them on Linux. It is also possible to use an exchange as a wallet but we do not recommend it.

The good news is that getting started with Zcash mining is very simple. You don’t need to download the full Zcash blockchain or manage clunky command-line miners with manual instructions; you can mine directly to an exchange or to a hardware wallet such as Trezor or Ledger Nano S. Of course, you should always do your due diligence to ensure your coins will be properly supported before sending them anywhere.

The other software I will be using in this guide and recommend is MSI’s Afterburner, which the latest version can be found on the MSI site here. The version of Afterburner I used for the guide is 4.3.0.9267.

The issue is that ewbf is not the fastest miner availible so it should be compared to dtsm´s miner and the increases are not that significant. But the 1080 boost seems nice, i will test it on my rigs.

Digital currencies are mine to a transparent but it can be spent to shielded address or Z-address. This currency should be swept out of the transparent address in one transaction without any changes.  You should use the Z-sendmany command to send currencies from a transparent address to shielded address. You need 4GB RAM for this process.

For the CPU part of this guide, we are going to use Nicehash miner. While this miner works for both CPU and GPU, we are going to get the best performance if we use different miners for CPU and GPU. This is because the Claymore miner is faster but only works for CPU.

For me, i’ll select the US server as shown. Make sure to also include the port number. In the config.txt, I will insert ‘-zpool us1-zcash.flypool.org:3333’. Simply add your Zcash wallet to the wallet section by adding ‘-zwal YOUR_WALLET_ADDRESS’.

Experimentation with various GPU selections in the calculator will reveal a card with the best price-to-performance-to-power consumption combination (expressed as MH/s per currency unit). Keep in mind that AMD cards outperform Nvidia cards for Ethereum mining purposes on the EthashAlgo, but AMD doesn’t beat Nvidia when it comes to the Equihash algorithm using the EWBF Miner.

If you have a Linux CUDA compute machine available we highly recommend using nvidia-docker. Installing different CUDA versions for Zcash mining and deep learning frameworks and managing versions can be painful. Using nvidia-docker you do not have to worry about that.

The EWBF CUDA Zcash Miner has a built-in developer fee that is set at 2%, meaning that every 10 minutes the software will switch to a different pool and mine for the developer some shares and then get back to mining for you. The author of the software claims speeds of about 250 H/s for Nvidia GTX 1070 while the NiceHash EQM miner does currently about 220 H/s on the same GPU. Our quick tests showed a hashrate of about 235-240 H/s average (up to 250 H/s) on stock GTX 1070, so still slightly faster, but not as much as you may want it to… then there is the dev fee as well and it seems that we are seeing somewhat more rejects than, especially when switching to mine for the dev fee. So while this may be an interesting alternative for users willing to mine outside of NiceHash, the actual performance that you may get poolside may not be much different than with what is currently the fastest implementation from NiceHash (taking into account the dev fee and the rejected shares)…

Notice I only have one GPU running. If you have multiple GPUs they all should be displayed as separate line entries starting with 0. At the top we can verify the mining program and version, the server, solver we are using (in this case the default or auto selected), devices configured for mining (more for multiple GPU systems, in our example just one even though it says all), max temperature limit of 90 degrees C (default setting) after which point the mining software will shutdown to prevent GPU damage, and information on if the optional API is enabled or disabled, as in our case.

Private Key   This is the part of data that you keep secret in your Bitcoin wallet. Every Bitcoin address has a unique private key attached. Possession of this key is what allows you to maintain control of those bitcoins. If someone else is able to obtain your key, they also have control of your bitcoins.

Simply plug in Freedom Miner to any 110-240V power outlet, plug in the Ethernet connection to your router or cable modem, turn it on and it will begin mining right away. A typical 15A circuit can support two Freedom Miners (7.25A / Unit), assuming no other equipment is being powered at the same time.

To minimize the disruptions to your mining and settings, you may also want to disable Windows Updates. If you feel more secure leaving updates on, you can do so, but keep in mind there are frequent updates that will reboot your system and stop your mining.

Once on your wallet statistic page (if it is blank or your get an error be aware that it may take several minutes to generate if your are newly mining to the pool) you should now be able to confirm your shares are being correctly received and accounted for. In the image shown below I have pulled up my statistic page. I have five miners pointed at this particular address right now, including the EWBF running on a single GTX 1080, which is shown below as the first entry.

    Could someone help me out here. I’ve got a R280X that should run around 290 h/s on equihash. I runs great guns on Cryptonite 485 h/s but when I start Claymore Zen64 miner it starts out at 275 h/s and then starts to throttle back to 150 h/s. It drops my clock speed in half and I have no control over setting thru MSI afterburner. It mines along but at half the speed 500mhz.
