For the CPU part of this guide, we are going to use Nicehash miner. While this miner works for both CPU and GPU, we are going to get the best performance if we use different miners for CPU and GPU. This is because the Claymore miner is faster but only works for CPU.
The other software I will be using in this guide and recommend is MSI’s Afterburner, which the latest version can be found on the MSI site here. The version of Afterburner I used for the guide is 22.214.171.12467.
* The nheqminer is available with hardcoded pools from nicehash, suprnova and other mining pools supporting Zcash, so make sure you download the correct version for the pool you are going to be mining at.
Next, copy your Zcash wallet address. Inside the bat file paste your own Zcash address (in the example above replace the address that starts with “t” and ends with “DX”). After replacing the address you can also change the worker name. In this case it’s .rig1, but you can call it .miningRig1 for example.
For this test, we are using the EWBF 0.3.3b miner. We are comparing all of the GTX series GPUs in terms of mining performance as well as power consumption. For the NVIDIA GTX 1070, GTX 1080 and GTX 1080 Ti we have both Founder’s Edition and overclocked variants. We did not test the GTX 1050 (2GB) and GTX 1060 (3GB) variants because they have significantly lower value for gaming and machine learning. We are assuming these GPUs are not dedicated miners and instead Zcash mining is something to utilize hardware while it is idle/ offset costs.

Linux users would probably want to go and try the latest version of the Silentarmy miner that also brought support for Nvidia GPUs and is apparently providing similar performance as the NiceHash release for Windows. Also the Silentarmy miner is doing pretty well on AMD hardware, so do try it as well if you have such mining rigs and are running them on Linux.
AMD GPU miners were recently getting quite the boost thanks to Claymoreâs Zcash miner on Windows, but now Windows users with Nvidia GPUs also got a nice boost in ZEC mining performance thanks to the release of the NiceHash EQM Zcash Nvidia Optimized Miner. It kind of doubles the performance that people were getting with the previous nheqminer from Nicehash, so now with a 6x GTX 1070 GPUs for example you can be all the way up to about 400 H/s. Do note that the miner currently supports only newer Nvidia GPUs and will apparently not work on anything lower than SM 5.0 capable GPUs â Maxwell or Pascal.

Ah, I see. Malware seem to be a huge problem on this forum. I took a look for a description to setup a VM quickly. It seems it not that easy. PCI/GPU-Passthrough seems to be very hardware dependent – not that easy to setup. I’ve really no good idea how to provide security for you, without opening the source. Well I guess someone has to try it out and report. Sry, but I have no better ideas for this.
The decentralization is done using the blockchain technology. Blockchain, is a type of a ledger that confirms transactions and lives in a distributed-fashion in the cloud. In other words, a group of computers around the world holds copies of the order books and for any given change in it, all the copies are updated. When a majority of the computers authorize a transaction, the money is securely transferred and added to the next block which will be written.
You mention Linux, my only question is… are you gaming on Linux as well, or just dual booting? I know there isn’t an nvidia-docker for Windows, so I was wondering the easiest/quickest way to start up a zcash instance on the side.
Earlier today Zcash (ZEC) went live as expected and people are already starting to mine it, some of them probably are still not aware of the slow start with very small block rewards initially. Regardless, with what is available as miners at the moment there are pretty much two places where you would want to go for mining if you still haven’t done so. The first one for CPU mining and CUDA mining is Flypool that uses a modified version of NiceHash’s stratum miner available for download here CPU/CUDA miner for Flypool.
Experimentation with various GPU selections in the calculator will reveal a card with the best price-to-performance-to-power consumption combination (expressed as MH/s per currency unit). Keep in mind that AMD cards outperform Nvidia cards for Ethereum mining purposes on the EthashAlgo, but AMD doesn’t beat Nvidia when it comes to the Equihash algorithm using the EWBF Miner.
Several months ago, we tried Zcash mining in Docker and even published Docker containers for CPU mining. Although we have CUDA enabled Monero mining containers, they performed well, but not significantly better than CPU mining. When we built a new image with Pascal GPUs we found that NVIDIA GPUs can keep up profitability in-line with using AMD GPUs to mine Zcash or Monero.
I’ve done a search here and no one is talking about Bminer a new Equihash miner released last month. from gpumining I started with EBWF then I discovered DSTM which was the tits with the higher hashrate but it was fairly unstable if I tried to adjust the vid cards through MSI AB giving me hard freezes or bsods. Yeah pretty good, but since the last month has been a little weird, it basically keeps disconecting form the main pool from time to time (for 3 min to 1 hr in a row once every third day), aside from that it works perfectly. This is just an opinion for Ethereum and Siacoin pools, i cannot say anything about others coins.
Difficulty this is the measure of how hard it is to generate a new block in the blockchain. The difficulty is designed to adjust every 2,016 blocks (roughly 2 weeks) to balance out the rate at which blocks are created. The difficulty has an absolute minimum of 1, but not such limit exists for the maximum.
Replace “eu” for your location, “ZEC-ADDRESS” for your zcash wallet address (transparent address), replace “-t 8” for the number of threads you want to use, and lastly replace “-og 0” for the number of GPUs you’re using (as in -og 0 1 2 if you’re using 3 GPUs)
HVAC is a serious additional expense when used to cool a mining or folding rig, it will add rough ballpark 40% to your electrical cost (somewhat less if you have a VERY high efficiency unit in the 15+ CEER/SEER range as opposed to common units that are typically 9.3 or so)

There is a new miner for Nvidia CUDA GPUs available for mining Zcash (ZEC) promising a slightly faster hashrate than the currently fastest implementation of the NiceHash EQM Zcash NVIDIA miner. The most important thing about this new miner is that it is not limited to only mining on NiceHash, so even with the same speed it is still a nice thing to have as it supports Stratum mining on other mining pools besides NiceHash (it does seem to support NiceHash’s Extranonce Subscribe as well). According to the author of the miner it is designed for Nvidia Pascal GPUs, but should work on older Compute 3.0 or higher Nvidia GPUs with at least 1 GB of video memory. Do note that the miner is not open source and there is only a Windows 64-bit binary release available at the moment, it does not seem to be based on other popular codebase and is not being reported as malicious software by antivirus products. You might still want to have something in mind as the user that posted it on Bitcointalk is a new account and not an established miner developer, even though it seems that the miner does work pretty well.

Zcash, a privacy centered cryptocurrency, made a mark in the mining scene by use of its ‘Equihash’ Proof of Work mining algorithm. The algorithm distinguishes itself from others with its focus on memory. In short, to mine Zcash, you’ll likely need more memory than what you’d need for other cryptocurrencies. But don’t worry, Zcash’s whopping $350+ USD trading value gives you enough incentive to get started.

The miner still needs some work, especially on Nvidia GPUs where by default it is pretty heavy on the CPU load and memory usage as well. It is recommended that Nvidia users add the parameter –enable-nv-hotfix in order to reduce the CPU load a bit, but still running the miner on the main GPU may make the system a bit unresponsive even with that parameter. Still if you are interested in mining MNX (even with the high hashrate and low block reward at the moment) or any other Equihash 96/5 coin you might want to check the lolMiner-mnx out.
The price of Ethereum mining machines must be adjusted frequently according to many factors, including ETH/USD exchange rate, the network difficulty, and expected difficulty increase. Refund requests based on price changes cannot be honored.
I would recommend EWBF miner for Zcash, but Claymore dual mining is just as good. Just in case anyone doesn’t know you can dual mine any coin you want, your not limited to just ETH and Decred or ETH and SIA. Just need to read the “Read Me” Text doc in your miners folder. I made a short explanation video, mind you I am not a top end Content creator… but should help..
While not mandatory, it is recommend to install a GPU overclocking utility such as MSI Afterburner to be able to optimize your GPU settings to mine the most efficiently. The installation of MSI Afterburner is straight-forward and should not require a reboot. For the EWBF miner there is nothing to install as we will be simply extracting the programs folder and running the program’s exe. We will however need to modify one of the example batch files included with the miner in order to get started.
Below is an example of a batch file that we use on one of our Windows-based mining rigs. Everything is contained in a single line in the .bat file. That single line specifies the program to be run (miner) and a few settings that customize the miner’s activity. Finally, and most importantly, one of Zcash wallet addresses is specified so mined Zcash goes to the right place. Here’s the .bat file that we are currently using to start mining.
