For a solid budget card, the Nvidia 1060 with 6 GB of RAM is recommended (when in stock and not ridiculously overpriced due to the card shortages we’ve been seeing in summer 2017). This GPU will beat the AMD 480s when it comes to mining Zcash!

Cryptocurrency markets are volatile and are rife with manipulation. Zcash is a relatively medium sized cryptocurrency currently valued at around $150M USD (at $104 USD per ZEC.) As points of comparison, Monero’s market cap is about $500M at the time of this writing and larger players like Ethereum and Bitcoin are well over $10B USD each. With such a small market cap, Zcash is particularly susceptible to market fluctuations.

In the example above we’re mining on USA stratum pool. We have a quad-core CPU with hyper-threading (8 threads available) and only one NVIDIA GPU in the computer. We are mining with 6 threads on the CPU and on the whole NVIDIA GPU.

Claymore has updated his ZCash AMD GPU miner to version 12.5 adding support for the ZCash forks (altcoins using the same Equihash algorithm) as well as doing some more improvements to the miner. The latest version comes with improved fans management for latest drivers and Polaris cards, added shares-per-GPU statistics when “s” key is pressed, addend an option to use a password for remote monitoring as well as included EthMan v3.0 which supports passwords and email notifications. This is currently the preferred solution by most miners mining ZEC or other coins based on the Equihash algorithm for AMD OpenCL GPU mining rigs, the miner does not yet have support for Nvidia GPUs. Nvidia miners can go for some of the available options for CUDA mining such as the nheqminer, excavator or EWBF’s CUDA Zcash miner for mining coins using the Equihash algorithm on their hardware.

There’s no payout. Reach 700, took a screen shot, but no income. If I could give lower than one star I’d do it. It also forces to open up a coinbase account specific for this app even if I already have one.

The first question everyone asks once they have decided to try Zcash mining is “What hardware is best to mine with?” This question is not easily answered because there are many improvements in hardware and software happening on almost a weekly basis. To start, mining falls into one of two general categories

Some of the above specialize for AMD GPUs, whereas other are tailored to Nvidia GPUs. However, you’ll find that the Claymore Miner works just fine for both, so the choice is ultimately a matter of preference.

Finally at the bottom we have the per worker statistics. If you have only one worker all these fields will show the same statistics, but this area breaks out the data for individual workers, where everything above was an aggregate of all your workers.

Experimentation with various GPU selections in the calculator will reveal a card with the best price-to-performance-to-power consumption combination (expressed as MH/s per currency unit). Keep in mind that AMD cards outperform Nvidia cards for Ethereum mining purposes on the EthashAlgo, but AMD doesn’t beat Nvidia when it comes to the Equihash algorithm using the EWBF Miner.

Next, you’ll want to modify your system page file and manually set it to 16384 MB (16GB). Right click “This PC” from Windows Explorer and choose “Properties”. Click on “Advanced system settings”. On the Advanced tab, click “Settings” (under Performance).

–pec  (optional) (this last optional parameter is telling the miner to run in performance reporting mode and will periodically display your overall hash/watt ration. It takes no variables and is more of an on/off flag as it defaults to off without this parameter being set)

You can go through the list of Zcash mining software that is easily available online. Some of them contain a built in developers fee. First of all you need to set up your local Zcash node and configure it and then start mining.

Yeah pretty good, but since the last month has been a little weird, it basically keeps disconecting form the main pool from time to time (for 3 min to 1 hr in a row once every third day), aside from that it works perfectly. This is just an opinion for Ethereum and Siacoin pools, i cannot say anything about others coins.

Now with all that said, it also does not mean that a mining program cannot contain a virus, or that it isn’t a virus itself, so don’t just blindly trust it either. It is just that there is a valid reason for a high rate of false positives when it comes to such software. Just as a general rule, I would not load any mining software on a machine that contains a cryptocurrency wallet, or one that you do any type of financial work on. It is best to play it safe and keep your mining rigs separate from your important information, so a separate machine is best that is dedicated to mining if possible.

I think I will end this guide at this point for now as it is getting to be quite long. While I originally intended to cover fine tuning and going over other optional arguments that the EWBF miner can use, I think I will wait and make this a two part guide. For now this Part 1 covers the basic setup and configuration of getting the EWBF miner running and shares being submitted to a pool. Since it will usually take some time before reaching a pools minimal payout period anyway, especially for just one or two cards, we have some time.

Replace “stratum.zcash.nicehash.com:3357” with your pool’s server. and replace “t1RjQjDbPQ9Syp97DHFyzvgZhcjgLTMwhaq” with your zcash wallet address. Optionally, replace “YourWorkerName”. If you want, you can also replace “x” with your password. 

For the CPU part of this guide, we are going to use Nicehash miner. While this miner works for both CPU and GPU, we are going to get the best performance if we use different miners for CPU and GPU. This is because the Claymore miner is faster but only works for CPU.

Now that you’ve got your hands dirty, just sit back and watch your zcash roll in! Be aware that you are mining to a transparent address (it starts with t). You can follow this guide to learn how to create a private and transparent wallet.

Routinely during its operation the miner will also display useful information such as the GPU temperature(s), sol/s per card and total sol/s. The part highlighted in a table fashion is what was enabled by using the –pec flag above and displays a rough efficiency reading you can later use to help fine tune your settings.

Buying gear and mining cryptocurrency with it allows you to own an income-producing asset the gear itself, with aftermarket resale value holding up very well and even appreciating. GPUs purchased for mining in 2015 and 2016 were often sold at a profit in 2017 due to high demand in the market!

The answer? Difficulty. By automatically adjusting the computational difficulty of solving a block, the Zcash blockchain is able to maintain 2.5-minute intervals. You’ll notice that difficulty closely tracks hashrate, and it, too, has seen exponential growth this year:

    It has better hashrates for ZEC and ETH. Equihash about 780 h/s and Eth around 28 to 30 mh/s with moderate overclocking (only power limit and clock speed) with 100 % fan. Reliable and stays cool around 65 to 75 C with high intensity settings. Used Nicehash at first but experimenting with different pools at the moment.

    I really like using EthOS over simple mining cause you can actually somewhat use LXDE as an operating system. The problem with EthOS is the limited number of mining programs you can run and the limited amount of packages you can install (instead of apt-get you have to use apt-get-ubuntu and about 90% of packages won’t download or install, and if they do you might have broken EthOS.)
    Run with ‘-h’ parameter to learn possible commands. By default, miner uses all CPU cores and no CUDA devices. You need to explicitly enable CUDA devices (setting ‘-cd’ parameter). If you wish to mine only with CUDA and no CPU, set ‘-t 0’.
