A: The miner uses adaptive intensity and tries to use the maximum intensity value, with the help of the –intensity option you can set a limit on the maximum intensity, this will slightly reduce gpu usage and performance. Allowed values 1 – 64. You can set different values for each cards –intensity 64 64 64 64

It can also help to check your equipment on different mining profitability websites. Sometimes the estimations vary so you can get a more accurate prediction by trying out different calculators. Some worth mentioning are:

As you can see, factory overclocked cards to help add slightly more performance in Zcash mining. A direct result of improved hash rate is higher earnings per day. Note, this analysis was done on 20 May 2017 and it will have changed in the 48 hours until it was published, but these are good general guidelines:

Thank you for the tutorial. I am a total noob and this worked just great! I would like to try the new version that incorporates the GPU. I have a nvidia. I downloaded the three folders, but it is completely different and has no batch file. I am at a loss, and their instructions don’t help me. Any advise is appreciated.

Please keep this in mind before you assume that this is profitable and buy hardware. If you were mining in December 2016 assuming a $90-100 price, by January 2017 to early March 2017 your Zcash stash was worth 1/2 to 1/3rd.

Block   A block is a unit of the code the comprises the bockchain. It is the record of transactions that have occurred since the last block was created and a confirmation to previous transactions. Each block links to the block before it, thus creating a full chain back to the original or “genesis” block.

For those who may be unfamiliar, Pascal is the code name for Nvidia’s latest micro-architecture which includes all GeForce 10 (10xx) series cards, such as the GTX 1050, GTX 1060, GTX 1070, GTX 1080, the Ti variants as well as Titian X and Xp cards. So basically the miner is optimized for Nvidia 10 series cards, but should still work with most Nvidia cards that have at least 1 GB of on-board memory and Compute 2.0 or higher capabilities.

For the purpose of this guide, we’re going to do a detailed walk-through of setting up and using the very popular Nvidia EWBF Miner. If you have AMD cards, mining Ethereum is usually your most profitable option.

I think I will end this guide at this point for now as it is getting to be quite long. While I originally intended to cover fine tuning and going over other optional arguments that the EWBF miner can use, I think I will wait and make this a two part guide. For now this Part 1 covers the basic setup and configuration of getting the EWBF miner running and shares being submitted to a pool. Since it will usually take some time before reaching a pools minimal payout period anyway, especially for just one or two cards, we have some time.

As solving these mathematical puzzles had become difficult, mining pools are being used. A mining pool is a joint effort between miners, so that even a miner with a relatively small amount of processing power can enjoy the reward, without having to solve the whole mathematical puzzle by himself, as it requires a lot of computing power (Hash rate). In the early days of Bitcoin, it was possible to mine Bitcoin with a standard processor of a personal computer (CPU mining). Afterwards, as the network grew bigger, the difficulty of solving these puzzles grew too, and it was no longer possible to mine using a CPU. For this reason, people shifted to using powerful “gamers” graphics card processes (GPU mining), as their design solves those puzzles much faster than a CPU. The next step was to shift over to ASICs (Application Specific Integrated Circuits which basically dedicated machines built for the sole purpose of mining). Today, Bitcoin’s network is so heavy, that nobody can mine Bitcoin by themselves. As an individual miner’s power is relatively small, he will probably not be able to solve any puzzle before other more powerful miners do and new puzzles are issued, resulting in wasted work which practically gives zero income (in theory, an individual can solve a puzzle by themselves, but with Bitcoin the chances of success are smaller than winning the lottery).

Now I will say I know how to use Linux and I have built quite a few computers with this OS, but this is just a list of dependencies that if I run all of them I don’t have any problems. Some of them might not be needed, but they won’t hurt. You will want to open your terminal by pressing ‘Ctrl+Alt+T’, and copy and paste these lines into the terminal and press enter. To paste into the terminal you can not just press ‘Ctrl+V’ you need to press ‘Ctrl+Shift+V’. And if for some reason you need to kill a process that is running in your terminal you need to press ‘Ctrl+C’. So here are all the dependencies, this is easily the longest part of the tutorial.

The takeaway here is that the hashrate has followed the price explosion, which really took off in May and June 2017. What an amazing bull run! Up to over $400 USD from under $50 USD in a few short months.

We are proud to offer the most bleeding edge software technology to share with our fellow miners and it is a privilege and honor to receive so much support. Thank you to all of our friends, developers and colleagues that share in making PiMP such a success!
